Cub Scout Pack 21, formed in 1952, was one of the first in Montville. There are several packs in town that draw from the local schools. Pack 21 is unique in that the boys attend many different schools, including area private schools. This gives the boys the opportunity to make friends outside of school. Pack 21 is affiliated with the Connecticut Rivers Council, Mohegan District and is proudly sponsored by the VFW.

The first rank, Bobcat, is for ALL boys who join Cub Scouting and is not dependant upon the boys age when he joins a pack. In order to earn any badge, a scout must successfully complete several different activities. These activities are seperated to the different ranks and are age appropriate tasks. It is not necessary for him to "catch up" if he joins as an "older" boy. After he earns the Bobcat Badge, he will then begin working on the projects etc. for whichever Den that he is part of.

Tiger Cubs BSA is a simple and fun program for first-grade boys and their families. The boys and their adult partners are introduced to Cub Scouting as they "Search, Discover, and Share" together. The Tiger Cub and his adult partner are encouraged to attend the weekly Den meeting night, where they conduct activities geared toward their age / skill level. Tiger Cubs and his adult partner use the planned "big idea" (or theme) for their activity during these meetings. The meetings are hosted by a Tiger Cub/adult partner team. Boys remain in the Tiger Cub program until they have completed the first grade. They then graduate into the Wolf Den.

The Wolf program is for boys who have completed first grade (or are age 8). To earn the Wolf badge, a boy must pass 12 achievements involving simple physical and mental skills. The next step for them is to join the Bear Den.

The Bear rank is for boys who have completed second grade (or are age 9). There are 24 Bear achievements in four different categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge.

The Webelos program is for boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10). A boy may begin working on the Webelos badge as soon as he joins a Webelos den. This is the first step in his transition from the Webelos den to the Boy Scout troop. As he completes the requirements found in the Webelos Scout Book, he will work on activity badges, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with the Boy Scout requirements - all leading to the Arrow of Light Award.

Cub Scout activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting - citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack making the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings most important

All Cub Scouts meet every Tuesday night from 6:30 - 7:30 either at the VFW on Raymond Hill Road or at the Fair Oaks School on the second Tuesday every month..
